Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah,
Dear sisters and brothers of our Irfa'a family.
With great thanks to Alllah, we have completed our first Illumined Way workshop and now 'officially virtually' launched the Qabas book series. It was a great pleasure and baraka to have your company at our workshop and we pray to be blessed by many more such gatherings by our Magnanimous Generous Beautiful Majestic Lord ﷻ.
We chose to gather for Illumined Way during the first 10 days of Dhul Hijja to gain maximum benefit from the hadith of our beloved ﷺ (given below)
As I mentioned in remarks during our previous dhikr majlis last Friday night, we have now entered the month of Dhul Hijjah and there are no better 10 days in the year than the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah-
"There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days," meaning the (first) ten days of Dhul- Hijjah. They said: "O Messenger of Allah! Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah?" He said: "Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah, unless a man goes out with himself and his wealth and does not bring anything back." narrated by Ibn Abbas (recorded in Bukhari, Ibn Majah)
These 10 days are still upon us, so I urge you to maximize your gaining benefit from them. Especially do not neglect to work for renewed and increased closeness to Allah ﷻ on the day of Arafat.
Among the best ways to do so is to fast and make abundant dhikr -
Fast – Fasting the day of Arafat which is the 9th day, the day before Eid. It is a great good deed that removes sins (please note if you are performing the Hajj, you should not fast it, but for everyone else it is highly recommended);
“Fasting three days every month and that of Ramadan every year is a perpetual fasting. I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of 'Arafa may atone for the sins of the preceding and the coming years, and I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of Ashura may atone for the sins of the preceding year.” from a longer narration by Abu Qatada (recorded in Muslim)
Increase your dhikr of Allah ﷻ - Make much takbeer, tahleel, and tahmeed on these days. In fact it is related that prominent sahaba (rad) used to go to the marketplace and make takbeer aloud during these days;
“There are no days on which good deeds are greater or more beloved to Allah than on these ten days, so recite much Tahleel (saying Laa ilaaha ill-Allah), Takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) and Tahmeed (saying Alhamdu Lillaah). (recorded in Ahmed, Tabarani)
In addition, giving charity, visiting the sick, feeding the poor, offering qurban even though you do not go on Hajj, and engaging in much contemplation, and time with the Quran – it’s reading, recitation etc., are more suggestions.
Mostly, I would suggest you keep aside some time during the day of Arafat- when you can be free of family and work commitments and any other pursuits other than contemplating the countenance of The Beloved ﷻ. Spend this time in sincere du’a and be with your Lord in a state of complete honesty and truthfulness. You will find your heart will then have the room it needs to speak from it’s depth. And may the du’a your heart makes then, be answered by our Magnificent Lord, who appreciates truthfulness and sincerity beyond anything else.
We look forward to connecting with you on Eid,
May Allah SWT bless you all,
Dr. Farah Zahir,
